Green Initiatives
In an effort to support the "Going Green" initative, The Sanderling has compiled a list of frequently asked questions:Do you have a recycling program?
The Sanderling provides recycling containers through out the property in guest areas as well as employee areas. In addition, we recycle glass, plastic and paper products in The Lifesaving Station and Left Bank restaurants and all group event space.
Do you use bulk dispensers for beverages, condiments, and food?
The Sanderling uses bulk dispensers for coffee, tea, condiments (when appropriate) and food (when appropriate).
Do you provide reusable utensils, napkins, and tablecloths when serving food and beverages?
The Sanderling does provide reusable service ware as well as cloth napkins and tablecloths.
Do you have a water conservation program?
The Sanderling has implemented a "Save our Planet" program for guest towel and linen replacement.
Do you use recycled and recyclable products?
The Sanderling makes every effort to use recycled and recyclable products when possible.
Do you source food from local growers?
The Sanderling is committed to sustainable local product. We have purchased a few head of cattle that are raised on the farmer’s pasture in Snow Hill, North Carolina and grass fed on the farmers own hay. We have partnered locally with the Weeping Radish who butchers and dry ages the beef for both restaurants. The Sanderling sources local produce from OBX Organics and has an herb garden on property. We are also committed to offering fresh seafood and work with Karl Helmkamp to ensure that all of our fish is line caught locally.
Do you use biobased and biodegradable products?
The Sanderling uses EcoSmart products where available. Our disposable coffee cups and our logo napkins are examples. Seventy-five percent of the cleaning supplies on property are green products.
Do you train your employees on these green initiatives?
The Sanderling continually promotes training and knowledge in all facets of conservation.
What other environmental initiatives are in place?
The Sanderling has also partnered with the North Carolina Land Trust as a Host of the Coast. Our guests may choose to donate $1.00 per night to help preserve the precious natural resources of Northeastern North Carolina. To date, the Coastal Land Trust has conserved more than 30,000 acres in 21 coastal counties of the state.
